There is one psalm I have open on my phone more nights than I would like to admit. Not because it fixes the insomnia. Because it gives the hour somewhere to go.
Most nights the problem is not any one thing. It is the accumulation: the quarter, a conversation I should have handled differently, a decision still sitting unmade. Lying there rehearsing it does nothing but keep me awake longer.
Someone else is not asleep either
He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
I do not always feel that verse the way I want to. Some nights it is just words on a screen. But I have noticed that reading it, even flatly, changes what I am doing with the hour. Instead of running the numbers again, I am handing them to someone.
It does not always put me to sleep. It usually puts the problem down, at least long enough for sleep to have a chance.
