I recorded this the morning after I got back, before the week could sand the edges off it. Three days, one beach, no signal, and a notebook I mostly did not open.
The short version: the silence did not give me ideas. It took away the ones that were never mine, the plans I was making mostly to feel like I was still in control of something.
What the silence actually did
Without a phone, a day gets very long and very short at the same time. Long, because there is nothing to check. Short, because you stop dividing it into the units a notification usually imposes.
Most of what I call planning is actually just worrying with a calendar app open.
I kept three changes from those three days. I will not pretend I have kept all of them since. But I know exactly what they were, which is more than I can say for most resolutions.
