Songs for the Drive from Bogotá to the Coast

Nine hours, one road, no repeats.

A mountain highway seen through a car windshield

Nine hours, one road, no repeats. That was the rule I gave myself building this list, somewhere around hour three of a drive that kept climbing before it finally let go and dropped toward the coast.

The first stretch is mountain driving, switchbacks, ears popping, so the songs up front are built for concentration more than mood. Nothing with a chorus big enough to make you sing along and miss a curve.

After the descent starts

Once the road starts dropping and the air changes, so does the list. Warmer, looser, built for a window down and a hand riding the wind outside it.

The best road trip songs are the ones that make the middle hours disappear, not the first ten minutes.

I have redone this playlist twice since the first drive, and the only rule that has survived both edits is the one I started with. Nine hours, one road, no repeats.
